Here are some other storms and why they are known. The Great Lakes Storm was on November 10, 1835. It caused 19 shipwrecks. 254 sailors died and it was one of the greatest tragedies of the Great Lakes region. The Winter Storm of 1866 occurred February 13-15. It left drifts up to twenty feet. The Early Blizzard of 1888 left 27 inches of snow, 49 deaths, and 59 sailors were also killed. The Blizzard of 1941 happened on March 14 and killed 32 people. This storm hit with winds at 85mph. The Winter of 1968-1969 had six blizzards on record. It left 30-50 inches of snow. The Blizzard of 1972 was on January 24. This blizzard had winds of 72mph, 10 inches of snow and the county shut down for 3 days. The New Years Blizzard of 1972 occurred December 31. Most people had to stop celebrations. The Duluth Blizzard of 1975 happened March 23-24 and again on the 26-29. There were 100mph winds and 20 foot waves on Lake Superior.
